Thanks for this great review of all three versions of Solaris (a book I enjoyed so much I named my website after it!)

I thought I’d share one aspect of the story that hit me hardest, which is probably most apparent in the book, and that’s this idea that no matter how far mankind travels, you will ultimately always end up having to encounter reflections of your own self, desires, fears, etc. In this way I saw the planet Solaris as like a giant “mirror,” reflecting man’s subconscious back at him. It’s sort of like the saying, “no matter where you go, there you are.”

Really interesting post. I too thought that the bird was Twitter’s logo until I noticed that they looked different.

The Fallschirmjager are certainly overlooked, which is sad. They were some pretty impressive troops. I’m actually a reenactor, and my boyfriend is in a unit that does a fallschirmjager impression.
